Sirhowy Hill Woodlands

Sirhowy Hill Woodlands cover a reclaimed area of about 85 hectares between Tredegar and Ebbw Vale where minerals were once extracted and spoil was dumped. Trees were planted from 1985. Now the woodlands, grasslands, ponds and wet areas provide habitats for many species of plants and animals, including many which are scarce.
In 2025 the Sirhowy Hill Woodlands Community Interest Company and HistoryPoints created QR codes which are displayed around the site for on-the-spot information about history, natural history and how the woodlands are managed for the benefit of nature and local residents. This project is funded by The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme, which is delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government's National Forest for Wales Programme.
