Dwygyfylchi war memorial

The war memorial near St Gwynin’s Church lists men from the locality who died in the two world wars. They include Private John Edwards, who came from a farm at the top of the Sychnant Pass and was awarded France's Medaille Militaire for "reckless bravery" in rescuing a comrade from behind enemy lines.   • Jones, W. Ernest, Sapper 240093. Royal Engineers (Railway Operating Division). Died 10/01/1918. Buried Les Baraques Military Cemetery, France. Son of WH and ME Jones of the Dwygyfylchi Hotel. Born and resided at Betws-y-coed. Also named on Betws-y-coed war memorial.
  • Moody, Dennis Richard, Private 135. Welsh Guards (1st battalion). Died 24/11/1918 aged 26. Buried at Penmaenmawr (Dwygyfylchi) Cemetery. Son of Richard Moody, of 1 Tan-yr-Allt Cottages, Conwy Old Road; husband of Margaret Ann Moody of 1a Norton Villa, Penmaenmawr.
  • Moody, Wallace/Walter Marcus, Private 266427. Royal Welsh Fusiliers (5/6 battalion). Died 08/08/1918. Buried at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq. Son of Richard Moody of 1 Tan-yr-Allt Cottages, Conwy Old Road.
  • Picton, James Allanson, Lieutenant. East Surry Regiment (9th battalion). Died 23/07/1917. Buried Dickebusch Cemetery Extension, Belgium. Awarded Military Cross. Son of John Beaumont and Mary Agnes Picton of Wavertree Lodge, Sheen Common Drive, Richmond, Surrey. The Picton family took holidays in Penmaenmawr and their holiday home was Caerlyr Lodge, Conwy Old Road.
